THE AW MOVEMENT METHOD

Movement that MOVES you.

Be MOVED by your movement practice. Movement is a tool to help you feel amazing in your body, to give you energy, to transform how you feel, and to deepen your relationship with yourself. Movement doesn’t need to be something you check off your to-do list, or struggle with on a consistent basis. When you find movement styles that feel good and resonate with you, a movement practice can transform your life.

My belief is that a multi-disciplinary approach to movement is the best way to build a consistent routine that you look forward to! So instead of focusing on one style of movement and trying to get everything we need from it, my method involves a variety of movement modalities to address your physical training needs. My method primarily weaves together resistance training, pilates and yoga, while incorporating all that I’ve learned over the past 11+ year of teaching, and 20 years of being a student of movement!

Central to my approach is creating a sound relationship to the deep physical core and our breath, so that we can tap into strength and ease from the deepest layers outward. Another important cornerstone of the AW Movement Method is sustainability. My classes will challenge you, but they are designed to leave you feeling energized, grounded, steady, and easeful. My intent is that they will allow you to move on a regular basis without feeling exhausted, burnt out, and overly sore. I believe that a little of something done consistently is incredibly powerful. Tune into your body’s wisdom and listen to what it needs. When you start moving from a connected place you’ll notice that even short practices are highly impactful.

Craft a movement routine you love.

Movement doesn’t need to be about pushing through a workout, or calling upon an immense amount of motivation to get through one.

What if moving your body was about feeling good - not just after your workout, but while you are deep in the throes of it?

What if moving your body became about connecting more deeply with yourself, and supported your life in a positive way that lasted far after each individual workout?

That is my vision for you. Because shifting my relationship to movement from one that was stress inducing and rooted in the notion that I always had to go as “hard as possible,” into one that is easeful, fulfilling and enhances my life has been transformational. I know firsthand what it’s like to feel like you are always pushing, and I promise there is a better way.

About Me

Hi, I’m Amanda. I’ve been a teacher of Movement for 11 years, and have spent most of my teaching career leading group classes and trainings in NYC. I refer to what I teach broadly as “movement” because I teach a variety of modalities, and love weaving them together to form my signature method. I’ve named my style of teaching the AW Movement Method, because it’s evolved into a distinctive system combining yoga, resistance training, and mat pilates. My method focuses on important aspects of physical training such as building strength, increasing endurance, increasing breath capacity, and improving mobility, flexibility and posture.

As someone who wasn’t a natural mover, it’s taken me many years of practice and teaching to find the right mix of class styles and frequencies to create a sustainable movement practice of my own. My own journey through this struggle allows me to really understand and help my students craft a movement routine that becomes a lifestyle. I’m not in it for the quick fix — I truly believe when we connect deeply to ourselves through movement it has the power to create incredible transformation in our lives.

This past year I moved to Tampa, FL with my family and we are loving it! If you are local to the Tampa area and want to connect please reach out.
